Position Overview
A leading manufacturing organization in the Asheville, NC area is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support its engineering team with mechanical product development, design support, and engineering documentation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate or early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience within a professional product development environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, an understanding of engineering design principles, and the ability to work accurately with technical documentation and drawings.
This position will support engineers working on mechanical and oil/lubrication-related systems and will assist with the documentation, organization, and execution of ongoing product development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support product development activities for mechanical systems and components.
- Assist with the creation, organization, review, and maintenance of engineering documentation.
- Work with engineering drawings, specifications, design records, and other technical documents.
- Support engineering change and document control processes.
- Assist engineers with mechanical design and product development activities.
- Review drawings and technical information for accuracy and completeness.
- Help maintain organized engineering records and ensure current documentation is readily available.
- Support testing, validation, prototype, and development activities as needed.
- Work with engineering team members to investigate and document product or design issues.
- Assist with design updates and engineering changes throughout the development process.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other technical teams.
- Complete assigned engineering projects and documentation within established timelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong understanding of basic mechanical engineering and design principles.
- Exposure to 3D CAD, mechanical design, and engineering drawings through coursework, internships, co-ops, or professional experience.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Experience
Any exposure to the following would be beneficial but is not required:
- Mechanical product design or product development
- CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
- Fluid mechanics, lubrication systems, or oil systems
- Engineering change management/document control
- Product testing and validation
- Prototype development
- Manufacturing environments
- Internships, co-ops, Formula SAE, senior design projects, or other hands-on engineering projects
