Job Overview:

Mechanical Designer (Weld Gun Coordination) - Southfield, MI.
Contract position - HYBRID POSITION
Day Shift - Pay Rate: approximately $33.00 per hour



Required Qualifications: Knowledge & Skills of the Mechanical Designer (Weld Gun Coordination):
Required Skills:
  • Responsible to work with the Project Engineer to track and report develop of weld guns
    • Understanding and knowing today's fastening technology. Welding both metal and aluminum, laser welding, riveting, screwing, adhesive, sealer applications
  • Responsible to drive and understand customer specifications both corporate and plant and applies standards for use in all aspects of mechanical designs of weld guns
  • Responsible to give updates to Project Engineer regarding engineering changes that occur during the lifecycle of the project
    • Knowledge of metal stack ups to determine weld pressures and selecting and sizing of weld guns for Body Welding Tools
    • Knowledge of basic weld gun design with the ability to select weld guns from a library
    • Consults and coordinates with Mechanical Design and Robot Simulation groups to ensure latest design intent and processes are achievable
    • Advanced knowledge of all types & variations of resistance welding apps: MIG, TIG, Arch, and robotic welding
  • Analyzing Data or Information - Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information of data into seperate parts
  • Mechanical Designer for Weld Gun (Design and) Coordination with knowledge of Body-in-White Fixture tooling assembly
  • Approximate 2+ years experience
  • Weld Gun Design and Coordination background and experience. Work with suppliers. Design & develop weld guns
  • CAD Skills - NX and knowledge of North American Auto Manufacturer standards and specifications for Body-in-White Tooling Fixtures
  • Strong understanding of Body Assembly, (geometry setting) and Fixture Tools for Framing lines, Bodyside Systems, and Sub Assembly for tooling fixture design
  • Coordinate and review with Technical Leaders, Project Engineers, Sr. Mechanical Engineers, and colleagues to maintain consistency within a given project, and/or to resolve design or other problems
  • Computers - knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and a good degree of competence with CAD platforms and associated application software
  • Knowledge of layout and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, and weld guns
  • Computer mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components of weld guns, using computer-assisted equipment

Would Like Skills:
  • Knowledge of auto assembly strategies (i.e. part flow within an assembly plant/body shop)
  • Understanding of how a GEO and Repot Systems function
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems. Drive and understand customer specifications both corporate and plant and apply standards for use in all aspects of mechanical designs
  • Knowledge of Fixture stack up methodology and how it relates to machining and tool stack up
  • Understanding of customer specifications (corporate and plant), standards, and local and/or national
  • Familiar with NAAMS Standards, Customer Standards, Attributes in CAD files, using CAD Check options


Position Requirements of the Mechanical Designer (Weld Gun Coordination):
  • 5+ years Mechanical Design and Engineering experience in Powertrain or Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to travel domestically (5-20%) and internationally as project needs may require for technical support
