Job Description

As a member of the Livingston & Haven Engineering Team, the Mechanical Design Technician supports engineering and manufacturing activities by creating, completing, and maintaining 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed part and assembly drawings, and Bills of Material (BOMs). We're looking for an engineering-minded designer.

This position will primarily support Mechatronics business activities, with opportunities to support fluid power and hydraulic system projects as needed. The position works closely with Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing, throughout the project lifecycle to ensure accurate and complete engineering documentation and manufacturing data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with Engineering to develop 3D CAD models and dimensional drawings of components, equipment, and assemblies in support of quoting, design, and production activities.
• Create detailed part and assembly drawings and complete engineering drawing packages to support manufacturing and assembly activities.
• Edit and maintain engineering models, drawings, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle while maintaining proper revision control.
• Work with Engineering to create, update, and maintain drawing BOMs and material BOMs within the ERP system.
• Create accurate models, illustrations, layouts, and drawings ranging from simple to complex based on engineering data, sketches, existing designs, specifications, or verbal direction.
• Create and maintain assemblies consisting of purchased components, fittings, hardware, fabricated components, and custom brackets.
• Create and maintain CAD part models, subassemblies, and standard components while following established naming conventions and required attributes.
• Create and maintain CAD symbol and component libraries within Autodesk Vault.
• Store, retrieve, and manage technical documentation using Autodesk Vault.
• Support the engineering drawing approval and lifecycle process within Autodesk Vault.
• Follow established L&H CAD, drawing, modeling, and documentation standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Material for mechanical assemblies and fabricated components.
• Support mechanical layouts and assemblies involving structural frames, sheet metal, fabricated components, and machine components.
• Work effectively with Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve drawing, modeling, BOM, and documentation issues.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
• Support L&H manufacturing activities as required.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and quality in all engineering documentation and data entry.
• Maintain professional working relationships with Associates, Vendors, and Customers.

Education and Experience

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, CAD/Design, or a related field from an accredited two-year college or technical school preferred.
• One to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with 3D CAD modeling, preferably Autodesk Inventor.

Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, machine design, or industrial equipment environment preferred.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
• Competent with AutoCAD.
• Ability to accurately create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Material.
• Working knowledge of mechanical drafting and design standards.
• Working knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing, and drawing practices.

- Ability to use Autodesk Inventor Sheet Metal tools.

Ability to use Autodesk Inventor Frame Generator.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate engineering documentation.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
• Strong graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Ability to follow established CAD standards, modeling practices, naming conventions, and document-control procedures.
• Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Vendors.
• Ability to understand basic manufacturing and fabrication processes.

Preferred / Additional Skills

• Experience with hydraulic systems, hydraulic components, fittings, tubing, piping, and hose assemblies.
• Experience with industrial equipment, machine design, fabrication, or system layouts.
• Experience with hydraulic or fluid-conduit sizing based on pressure and flow requirements.
• Knowledge of hydraulic fitting selection and application.
• Experience with CNC machining or CNC programming/processes.
• Familiarity with FEA or other engineering analysis tools within Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience working with an ERP system and engineering/manufacturing BOMs.

Experience working within a controlled engineering document-management system such as Autodesk Vault.
