Job Overview:

The Mechanical Design and Process Engineer is a hands-on member of our Garnet Materials Process and Design team, ensuring that the faraday rotator material produced at this location meets customer requirements.  This role is responsible for designing mechanical fixtures and drawings to support process development, testing methodology and increasing production efficiency. The process engineering responsibilities include the following:

  • Support LPE growth engineers with process monitoring, process improvement projects and yield analysis. 
  • Work with product development, growth and testing engineers to improve process efficiency and yields by reviewing failure modes through SPC and pareto analysis.
  • Design, develop and implement cost-effective, innovative solutions for the growth and fabrication of our faraday rotator materials.
  • Support testing and characterization engineers by providing mechanical design insights and design modeling and drawings as needed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Physics, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering
  • One year experience working in manufacturing environment utilizing and understanding all safety requirements, preferred
  • Relevant coursework, labs or previous experience using Solidworks, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Relevant coursework, labs or previous experience using LabView, MathCAD or other programming languages; Python, Shell Scripting, etc.
  • Relevant coursework or previous experience with opto-mechanical designs

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of mechanical design, 3D modeling, stress and thermal analysis
  • Experience working with databases, data retrieval, and complex analysis
  • Experience with Python, C# or other script programming languages
  • Experience with JMP, Origin, Excel or other statistical analysis software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and good decision-making around work safety (laser, mechanics, hazardous chemicals, fragile materials, etc.),
  • Comfortable working as a member of a larger team.  Collaborating with others on projects.
