Job Description

The Design Engineer I provides a range of knowledge in designing tools and fixtures used for the high volume production. The tool designs need to follow and meet the design specification outlined by the Process or Manufacturing Engineer. The position level is commensurate with education and experience.

Job Accountabilities:

• Provide knowledge in design, development and testing of mechanical components.
• Perform value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs.        
• Participates in engineering activities to define product requirements, creates designs, and perform validation of final components.      
• Uses existing procedures to solve problems, analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments.                                                                                   
• Coordinate projects and tasks with other Engineers & Project Managers to complete assignments and projects on schedule.
• Reduce costs and improve design and development processes, using best practices and professional knowledge.
• Test and evaluate new designs, processes, techniques and/or methodologies to develop products for aerospace applications/markets.
• Maintain project files and appropriate records of work.
• Evaluate and apply leading edge technologies for creating new products and ideas, along with new application opportunities.
• Work effectively across all levels within the location as required to perform responsibilities
• Develop good interpersonal relationships necessary for effective teamwork
• Maintain professional manner/demeanor with all customers, visitors, and employees
• Complete and document a thorough process when developing new product designs.
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Job Specifications:
 
Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aeronautical Engineering or Manufacturing. Or four (4) years of combined relevant education and work-related experience may be substituted for meeting the educational requirements. 

Years’ Experience:  

• 0-1-year related experience as an Engineer or CAD designer in a manufacturing environment or on the job experience in a composite manufacturing environment. 

Experience: 

• 0-1-year related experience as an Engineer or CAD designer in a manufacturing environment or on the job experience in a composite manufacturing environment.
• Experience designing and maintaining manufacturing processes and associated fixtures, tooling, and documentation.  
• Experience in laminating Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Kevlar, or other composite materials preferred
• Knowledge of quality standards (AS9100D preferred), statistical analysis, root cause analysis, APQP, CAPA
• Proficient in CAD modeling. (Catia preferred) 
• Experience in reading blueprints and GD&T.

Computer Skills: 

•  Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
