Job Overview:

 

Summary 

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer that has the ability to think creatively and independently, as well as to develop custom factory automation systems from blank concept to full design. The position is responsible for the concept, costing, design and development of new products and systems such as conveyors. 


Essential Functions

  • This role will focus on designing material handling systems, mechanisms and machines from concept to production.
  • Design and specify components for conveyors, special machines and handling systems.
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including mechanical sizing of components such as motors, cylinders, chain etc.
  • Manage part number creation and revisions within a controlled process.
  • Create 2D System Layout drawings.
  • Create 3D models and detailed drawings of components and assemblies.
  • Create accurate Bill of Materials.
  • Enter items for release into ERP system.
  • Contribute to establishment of standard design practices and processes.
  • Support manufacture, build and validation of systems.
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to source components and ensure final quality.
  • Assure projects are quoted, designed, and manufactured in accordance with sound engineering principles and meet customer and company expectations.
  • Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities.
  • Provide existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware in production
  • Critical thinking with excellent problem solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments.


Education and Experience:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar related degree.
  • 3-5 years experience in design of custom factory automation systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, CREO and Solidworks or similar modeling and design software for the design and analysis of parts, assemblies, drawings, and bills of material.
  • 3-5 years experience in Solidworks.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design and application of fluid power (hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum), electro-mechanical actuators, robotic systems, and machine drive systems, servos, steppers, drives, indexers.
