Martin Marietta is seeking a skilled Mechanic Welder/Fabricator to support the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of asphalt plant and industrial equipment throughout the metropolitan area. This role is ideal for a mechanically minded professional who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting in the field, and fabricating solutions that keep critical plant operations running safely and efficiently.
This is a union position, and membership in IUOE Local 49 is required.
What You’ll Do
Repair, fabricate, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide range of industrial and mobile equipment, including:
Asphalt plant equipment
Conveyor systems
Crushing and processing equipment
Piping, tanks, and structural components
Perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime
Conduct welding and fabrication work, frequently in out‑of‑position scenarios
Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective, long‑lasting repairs
Follow all required safety procedures, including MSHA and OSHA standards
Assist with training and mentoring coworkers as needed
Work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with the maintenance team
Work Environment
Based out of the south metro and supporting our southern MN locations. (Rosemount to New Ulm/Mankato and surrounding areas)
Approximately 10% shop work / 90% field work
Outdoor work at multiple asphalt and aggregate sites across the metro area
Exposure to varying weather, elevated work areas, and industrial environments
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to feel, or handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of asphalt plant operations and industrial equipment
Proven mechanical aptitude with hands-on repair and fabrication experience
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
Experience operating aerial lifts and manlifts
Comfortable working outdoors and in elevated or confined spaces
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work with minimal supervision
Class B CDL required, Class A CDL preferred

We are excited to share the base salary rate for this position is $29.94 - $46.61. Conditions and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 49.
