Material Flow Supervisor

The Material Flow Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the warehouse and production floor activities to maximize productivity on assigned shifts and over-all operations. This position is responsible for the timely flow of material from receiving into the warehouse and out to the point of use along with the flow of finished goods out of the building. In addition, this position is accountable for warehouse inventory accuracy and the support of cycle counting routines to drive accuracy of perpetual records on the material stored in the warehouse.

What You Will Do:

  • Recommend improvements to reduce cost and drive productivity within the department while achieving site specific goals.
  • Supervise all phases of warehouse, shipping/receiving, and material movement operations within the facility.
  • Maintain inventory and product loss control and ensures safety/operational guidelines are met.
  • Support cycle count standard work goals with the long-term objective of achieving cycle count certification.
  • Maintain and issues inventory reporting, including inventory accuracy and cycle count metrics
  • Implement and enforce standard work across the functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities in all functional areas.
  • Provide supervision of assigned employees in scheduling and daily activities, ensuring effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action and performance management.
  • Organize activities & assigning jobs accordingly to the staff requirements.
  • Establish and monitor employees’ work schedules to meet needs of business.
  • Train and instruct employees regarding work performed in responsible areas. Oversees instruction, implementation and enforcement of policies as they relate to direct reports.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Ensure the warehouse and material storage areas are clean and organized.
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Motivate staff to make an effective and efficient team.
  • Engage in the typical responsibilities of a supervisor requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You Need To Succeed:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead line process activities
  • Able to make quality decisions in fast-paced environment
  • Good understanding of warehouse process strategies
  • Solid knowledge in supporting lean flow processes on shop floor
  • Able to effectively manage resources across multiple disciplines
  • Be a proactive change agent and possess leadership skills to build and maintain a team-oriented environment while leveraging lean methodologies.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a strong customer service orientation and must provide dedicated support of internal customer requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to work on multiple priorities at once.
  • Solid interpersonal skills…ability to motivate staff and to interact with various departments throughout the organization
  • Be resourceful, can find solutions to unusual problems and meet customer needs

Additional Skills and Knowledge Needed:

  • BS/BA degree in business or related field preferred. High school diploma required.
  • Certification in Production and Inventory Management desirable
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the integrated functions of manufacturing
  • Understanding of rate-based or flow line (non-MRP) and job shop manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of visual management systems.
  • Understanding of operating warehouse equipment and any necessary certifications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or other equivalent Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and other inventory control/shipping software
