SUMMARY

Responsible for managing all aspects of purchasing (sourcing decisions, cost negotiation, etc.) and planning/scheduling with suppliers, production, and satellite plant deliveries.   Responsibilities also include monitoring, developing, and improving support systems and processes to drive cost reduction, inventory turns, material flow, and inventory/transactional accuracy.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  • Monitors, develops, and improves planning processes in consideration of capacity (machine and labor), and material availability to attain efficiency goals (specifically set-up/change-over reduction), increase inventory turns, and achieve on-time delivery goals.
  • Analyzes historical and current customer demand, forecasts information and historical material usage on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures the most economical and efficient plans for Production are being executed (in collaboration with the Production department). Also ensures these plans are accurately updated and reflected in the ERP system to guide Planners/Buyers.
  • Executes a sourcing strategy to meet the company’s requirements.  Identifies, develops and manages effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers of goods and services to meet the established volume, cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • In conjunction with Production and Shipping/Receiving departments, responsible for the accuracy of inventory by implementing and managing inventory control processes and procedures. These procedures should be capable of identifying present and future discrepancies and preventing similar repetitive issues in the future by creating robust corrective actions to prevent similar repetitive issues in the future. 
  • Monitors/Develops/Improves Supplier Scorecards – and ensures timely distribution.
  • Coordinates daily with Production, Engineering, Quality and Sales to ensure on-time customer deliveries.
  • Participates in MRB and CAR meetings to resolve quality issues -- working with both internal and external resources.
  • Assesses the impact of engineering change orders – and plans/controls the changes needed to minimize inventory obsolescence exposure/risk.
  • Establishes and implements methods and best practices related to the systems and processes that support Purchasing, Planning, and Inventory Control/Accuracy disciplines.
  • Collaborates with Production, Engineering, Quality and Sales to achieve cost reduction goals.
  • Assists with special projects (i.e. new product development, customer ramp-up plans, and other similar projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university (preferably in Supply Chain Management) or an equivalent combination of formal education, on-the-job training, and/or work experience.
  • At least 5 years’ progressive experience in management of materials, inventory and sourcing within a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment (experience with Syteline a plus)
  • Experience working in a TS or ISO certified manufacturing operation
  • Proficient with MS Office applications – advanced knowledge of Excel required
  • Ability to leverage data and develop metrics to monitor and drive performance/improvement – with suppliers, production, inventory, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interface effectively with personnel at all levels and contribute to a cross functional collaborative environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated analytical ability – including cost modeling, cost analysis, produce vs purchase analysis, etc.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and excellent organizational skills - able to manage multiple changing priorities while meeting deadlines
