Description
Position Summary
The Materials Manager plays a key role in overseeing the supply chain functions related to materials planning, procurement, and inventory management for assigned brands. This individual is responsible for leading a team of buyers and inventory technicians, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining operational metrics to support the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary materials contact, fostering strong internal relationships and delivering timely updates.
- Support the Operations Manager in mentoring and coaching employees.
- Evaluate supplier performance through report cards and participate in supplier business reviews.
- Develop budgets and forecast purchasing trends to guide strategic decisions.
- Compile and analyze product performance data; make recommendations to leadership.
- Identify and implement process improvements; drive change initiatives.
- Create and manage purchase orders for assigned suppliers.
- Manage supplier accounts to ensure on-time delivery and quality standards.
- Support non-conforming material and receipt exception processes.
- Facilitate the resolution of material and process issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Coordinate material needs for New Product Introductions (NPI) and End-of-Life (EOL) processes.
- Monitor and report material shortages and critical issues for new products.
- Build long-term supplier relationships and negotiate cost-effective agreements.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels and support cycle counts and year-end inventory activities.
- Partner with Engineering, Sales, and estimating to resolve technical specification changes.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing and Customer Service to meet production priorities.
- Implement commodity reviews to drive cost savings and supplier consolidation.
- Ensure the successful execution of cost reduction initiatives (direct, indirect, and cost avoidance).
- Standardize materials management processes aligned with the Operations Manager's direction.
Tools & Equipment
- Computers, printers, and general office equipment.
Work Environment
- 90% Office (low noise)
- 10% Manufacturing (requires PPE including safety glasses; clean, moderate noise)
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- At least 1 year of managerial experience in a supply chain or production environment.
- APICS certification preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
- Analytical skills with proficiency in data evaluation and reporting.
- Proven experience in purchasing and vendor management.
- Strong computer proficiency, including MS Office Suite.
- Highly adaptable with the ability to multitask effectively.
Travel & Physical Requirements
- Travel: Up to 10% (Local suppliers)
- Physical: Ability to lift 25–50 lbs. occasionally.
