Job Description

As a Material Coordinator within the Maritime Solutions team at BAE Systems, you will serve as the vital link between the Supply Chain organization and the shipyard production floor. Your primary objective is to ensure that Shipyard Craft Managers and Supervisors have the necessary materials available on the deckplate prior to the start of work. You will be responsible for the tactical execution of the Master Material Index (MMI), managing short-to-medium lead-time requisitions, and conducting technical reviews of raw materials to prevent waste and ensure production continuity.

Key Responsibilities
Production Coordination & Shop Floor Integration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Shop Supervisors (Sheet Metal, Plate, Pipe, and Electric) to ensure material availability aligns with the production schedule.
  • Conduct regular raw material and nesting reviews with Shop Supervisors to validate requirements and minimize material waste.
  • Translate production needs into actionable supply chain requisitions, ensuring a seamless flow of materials to the deckplate.
Material Planning & Execution
  • Execute the requisitioning of all materials with lead times of less than 50 days in strict alignment with the Master Material Index (MMI).
  • Perform detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) reviews to ensure 100% accuracy in the requisition of RCC materials and base items.
  • Monitor the status of open purchase orders and coordinate with Material Expeditors to ensure the integrity of Costpoint documentation.
  • Identify potential material shortages or lead-time delays and proactively escalate risks to the Material Production Manager.
Technical Analysis & Documentation
  • Review work specifications and technical drawings to verify material requirements.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the MMI by updating material statuses and coordinating corrective actions for any identified gaps.
  • Resolve technical bottlenecks during the PO/RFQ process to prevent delays in procurement.
  • Utilize ERP systems to track material movement and ensure data integrity across the supply chain.

Required Skills and Education

Experience/Education
  • Required:  Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Preferred: Professional certification in Supply Chain (e.g., CSCP, CPIM).

  • Required: 3–7 years of experience in materials management, procurement, or production control.
  • Required: Experience working within a government-contracting environment; experience in the Ship Repair or Shipyard industry is highly preferred.
  • Required: Proficiency in ERP systems, specifically Costpoint, and the Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills are critical).
  • Required: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and defense industry work specifications.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with FAR, DFAR, ITAR, and EAR regulations.
