Purpose
Under general supervision, the Material Handler is responsible for receiving products into the parts area, pulling and delivering parts to production, and packaging and shipping domestic spare parts orders. This role plays a key part in supporting production operations by ensuring materials are accurately received, stored, and distributed throughout the facility.
Essential Responsibilities
- Pull parts orders according to production schedules and deliver materials to assembly areas.
- Package, crate, and prepare parts and equipment for shipment, selecting appropriate packaging methods based on product requirements.
- Review daily shipping schedules and requirements to ensure timely and accurate shipments.
- Measure shipments as needed to determine transportation requirements.
- Maintain adequate inventory of shipping and packaging supplies.
- Verify bills of lading and shipping documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure efficient handling of outgoing and incoming products.
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Receive incoming goods and process associated documentation in company systems.
- Distribute received materials to appropriate departments.
- Handle weldments and materials requiring inspection or return processing.
- Stock warehouse inventory and establish locations for new items.
- Notify production personnel of incoming materials and fulfill production backorders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three years of warehouse, shipping, receiving, or distribution experience preferred.
- Forklift certification or previous forklift experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to access shipping instructions, order information, and inventory systems.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift, move, and handle materials throughout the workday.
- Work performed approximately 85% indoors within a manufacturing facility and 15% outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating material handling equipment required.
