The Material Handler receives, stores, and distributes material, equipment, and products within the establishment by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reads shipment summaries, purchase orders, packing lists, bill of materials, and other documents related to the position within the DC
- Accurately and efficiently pick orders with little supervision
- Assists Team Lead in order completion to include labeling and checking to ensure labels have correct information and are placed correctly on the carton per the customer’s guidelines
- Moves freight from cases to corresponding bins with accuracy, transfers freight from the proper racks to their assigned areas and keeps forward bins stocked and organized.
- Accurately sorts packages by SKU for receiving and storage; and UPS and FedEx packages to be loaded onto trailers
- Uses hand-held scanner or tagging gun as needed
- Participates in meeting and functions as requested, and provides (and receives) feedback
- Exhibits willingness to assist in all areas of the department and warehouse in processing orders in a timely manner
- Maintains a clean, organized and safety conscious work area
- Perform all other duties related to the department.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is a must; as well as the flexibility to work overtime when needed
- Ability to identify key areas of improvement as it pertains to maintaining picking order, receiving product, pack, recovery, returns; improving processes and procedures to ensure all aspects of the position are performed correctly and accurately.

Material Handler – Level 1:
- Entry level position, in training. Main duties include: cart puller, order picker, and floor replenishment tasks
- Unload and load boxes (lumper)
Material Handler – Level 2: Able to prove consistent mastery of the following skills/abilities:
- May require certification and safe operations of order picker, reach truck, forklift, and pallet jack
- Fully trained in all basic tasks (listed in Level 1)
- Basic WMS system knowledge (look up locations, basic research) when assigned to Shipping/Receiving
- Picks with no errors (shipping)
- Trained in all Pack duties (pack)
Material Handler – Level 3: Able to prove consistent mastery of the following skills/abilities:
- Able and willing to perform duties in Levels 1-2
- INVENTORY CONTROL: Intermediate WMS system knowledge and performs (including returns, daily cycle counts, inventory adjustments.)
- WAVE OPERATOR: Advanced WMS system knowledge to coordinate the picking/packing processes among material handlers. VA: Generate UPC tags, and various vendor labels.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to hear, read and comprehend (in English), operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, short correspondence, work orders and bills of lading.
- Understands the SKU process and recognize inaccuracies in product, packaging, case pack and description
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with co-workers and/or supervisors.
- Basic Math: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Excellent Hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions dealing with standardized situations; and able to learn quickly.
- Detail oriented, able to multi-task, extremely organized and able to follow directions (written and oral) with extreme accuracy.
- Trained and certified on various lifts: forklift, reach truck, stock picker, etc.
- Must possess a positive attitude and a strong work ethic
Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree preferred, but not mandatory
- 1+ years of distribution center experience
- Prior lift certifications a plus
- Verifiable work history
- Microsoft Office and WMS systems experience preferred for Level 3

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and or walk (90% of the day) and occasionally reach, bend and move inside the facility to move product. May occasionally climb stairs, ladders or scaffolds
- Fine motor skills: required using the wrists, hands, and fingers to pull and inspect orders
- Vision: Required to have close visual acuity, color vision and depth perception
- Able to hear and effectively communicate with peers
- Ability to lift/move up to 50+ lbs. continually throughout day
- Moderate dust and noise due to warehouse operations
- Extreme temperatures: this position will work in a building that does not have climate controls.
