Job Description – Material Handler
Position Summary
- Responsible for supporting daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, picking, packing, palletizing, and shipping inventory.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Ensure materials and customer orders are handled accurately and in accordance with warehouse procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
- Operate stand-up forklifts, pallet jacks, and push carts to move materials throughout the warehouse.
- Safely load, unload, transport, and position products and materials.
- Unload incoming deliveries and verify received inventory against documentation.
- Inspect incoming materials for quantity, condition, and accuracy.
- Store products in designated warehouse locations.
- Retrieve and move inventory as required for customer orders or internal operations.
Inventory & WMS
- Accurately receive and record inventory into the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Update inventory records when products are received, moved, or shipped.
- Use handheld scanners/RF scanners to scan products and warehouse locations.
- Identify and report inventory discrepancies, damaged products, or missing items.
- Maintain accurate inventory and transaction records.
Order Fulfillment
- Select and pick products according to customer orders.
- Verify product numbers, quantities, and order details before packing.
- Pack customer orders securely and accurately.
- Palletize products for shipment and ensure pallets are properly organized and secured.
- Assist with preparing and staging shipments for pickup.
- Load or move completed orders as directed.
Safety & Warehouse Maintenance
- Follow all warehouse safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines.
- Perform daily safety checks of the work area and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free warehouse.
- Properly store materials and keep aisles and work areas clear.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, or other safety concerns to supervisors.
- Follow required PPE and workplace safety requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders safely.
- Comfortable working at heights when required.
- Ability to cut wire and perform other basic material-handling tasks.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
- Must be able to wear required PPE throughout the workday.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of stand-up forklift experience – required.
- Experience operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to operate a handheld/RF scanner.
- Ability to accurately enter and update warehouse information.
- Strong attention to detail when handling inventory and customer orders.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as a Material Handler, Warehouse Associate, Forklift Operator, Warehouse Operator, or Distribution Associate.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Experience with inventory receiving and put-away.
- Experience with order picking, packing, palletizing, and shipping.
- Experience using RF scanners or barcode scanners.
- Experience working in a distribution, manufacturing, logistics, or warehouse environment.
