Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for unloading and loading materials from trailers and storage areas, ensuring materials are handled safely. Materials Handlers must check that materials are packaged correctly, are not damaged, and are up-to-date in the computer systems. Material Handlers are also responsible for entering data into the computer systems correctly and on a timely basis, as well as organizing and maintaining inventory indoors and out in the Yard (outdoors), including measurement of different sizes of bar stock and organizing the steelyard accordingly.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Check work area for hazards.
- Work safely and inform other and supervisor of any observed safety issues.
- Consult with Team Leader about scheduled production. Plan the most efficient methods of completing work
assignments. - Loading and unloading materials and/or pallets from trailers or designated storage units, using forklift
- Responsible for accurately entering data into the computer systems on time
- Responsible for ensuring materials are labeled and packaged properly, including measurements using tape measurer. Organizing correctly
- Responsible for maintaining inventory, ensuring it is up to date
- Performing general maintenance and cleanup of working areas
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Practice good housekeeping of work area and equipment, as well as organizational skills
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school degree or GED. and at six to twelve months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of metallurgy industry preferred, working in steelyard.
- Ability to effectively communicate internally and externally using both oral and written means.
- A team-oriented approach to solving problems in a self-directed work environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based upon production demand at least 50 hours per week.
- Previous Forklift Experience.
- Advance knowledge of tape measurements.
