Position Summary: The Material Handler focuses on maximizing the use of material drops in the production process to maintain a consistently low scrap rate by keeping their plants scrap rate below the company wide goal of 20%. Focused on material utilization of our metal both running through our Turret/Laser, and being cut by our shears.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee utilization of drops from the production process. Pre-cut braces and full sheets are being used properly
- Checking the scrap bin to make sure employees aren’t throwing away usable material, and talking to employees who aren’t following guidelines properly
- Create more storage for usable scrap material that will minimize welder movement to increase throughput.
- Create daily process to re-fill all bins with usable drops from previous shift
- Communication-Stay past shift (5-10 min) to communicate with 2nd/3rd shift on what task to finish next and casting a vision for material usage for the next couple of months
- Work with the Batcher’s to increase batch utilization, exclude parts, minimize sheets being pushed through Laser/Turret machines, and decrease the physical scrap being made by our machines
- Provide direction to all plant employees on the importance of material utilization and help identify areas to improve their current metal handling process in their respective department
- Hand-shearing straight curbs and fan curbs with scrap instead of being batched
Requirements
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience manufacturing with sheet metal
- Outstanding attention to detail, ability to multitask, strong time management skills
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment drug test
- Must be able to effectively read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to stand or walk for extended amounts of time
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, grip, squat and lift
- Outstanding communication ability
- Excellent organizational and leaderships skills
- General understanding on how to build a curb, understand engineering files, operate folding machines, use forklift, understand batching process
- Effective communication between departments, autonomous, remaining on-task, and productive on current projects.
- Maintain cleanliness within the plant, have creative ideas and spatial problem-solving skills, fabricate more storage for usable drops.
- Ability to help others on how to improve how they use their metal.
