Material Handler – Greensburg, LA

Summary:
Responsible for loading and unloading materials and products, and safe and efficient operation of the forklift vehicle. Support the production team by operating machinery, punching or sawing of metal products and performing other related work as instructed by supervisors.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Loads and unloads material in a safe fashion, verifies that incoming and outgoing material is free from damage
Marks all incoming product with job numbers and dispositions, transfers the material to the designated area
Loads customer orders on flatbed truck, van trailers, and/or trailers
Ensures that materials get loaded free of damage and drivers secure the load without damaging product.
Verifies that job numbers written on product correspond with supplied paperwork and ensures product gets loaded according to the delivery note provided by the shipping department.
Works closely with QC incoming goods and QC outgoing goods.
Operate machinery in the production process and assist machine operators.
Heavy use of forklift and other material handling equipment to efficiently and safely move product throughout the warehouse.
Operate a forklift to move material through facility (i.e. forklift, roll clamp) as required.
Communicate with supervisors and operators to effectively handle material and notify them of problems/concerns.
Properly document all work performed.
Use tools such as hammers and crowbars to remove strapping, open crates, strap cars.
Other tasks as assigned
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must be able to sit, climb and operate and maneuver forklift for extended period.
Must have minimum 1-2 years of forklift operation experience (standard and extended boom)
Employees will occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and a variety of extreme conditions and weather conditions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
Some weekend work may be required occasionally.
