The Material Handler is responsible for the proper handling of materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and internal customer service. This role performs a variety of stockroom functions including production order picking, warehouse storage, packaging of finished goods, inventory control, supply documentation, data input, and material distribution. This position works with a team to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations within the warehouse and storage facility.

This is a training position to familiarize a new employee with the packaging line and warehouse operations. It will provide experience in the operation of packaging equipment under close supervision.  


Material Handling (90%)

  • Loads and unloads liquid and dry bulk material within a warehouse or storage facility.
  • Safely operates material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining the flow of work and materials based on scheduled supplier deliveries, customer orders, and other internal or external delivery requirements according to established priorities.
  • Performs and ensures accurate and timely computer and physical transactions as well as verifies accuracy of transactions/paperwork regarding receiving, stocking, movement, shipping or other required material or goods activities.
  • May prepare, mark/label/tag and/or package and assemble materials or goods for receipt, storage, delivery or shipment according to location or customer requirement.
  • Samples liquid bulk and dry goods.
  • Maintains and improves month end inventory accuracy. Assists or conducts activities such cycle counts, physical counts, hand counts or other inventory validation and control measures as assigned.
  • Maintains orderly, clean and safe work area.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Leadership (10%)

  • Operates safely within NatureWorks policies, procedures and governmental regulations and fully participates in and champions NatureWorks Environmental, Health & Safety Programs
  • Ensures the Environmental, Health & Safety Programs are being followed and provides a safe working environment to our employees and customers 
  • Accountable for building a strong safety culture and actively pursues it on a daily basis; identifies unsafe behaviors and conditions and intervenes to mitigate incidents



Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 6 months - 1 year+ of Warehouse Experience

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Associates degree
  • 2+ years of material handling experience
  • Experienced in use of forklifts
  • Basic knowledge of transactions within ERP systems (SAP), preferred
  • Experience working with a scanning gun
  • Problem solving abilities plus mechanical aptitude is preferred.

Other (knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • Must have a driver's license with reliable transportation.
  • Sound knowledge of fundamental material handling processes as applicable including: customer order fulfillment activities & shipping, packaging, receiving, inventory control and disposition, supply documentation, data and transactional management, material distribution and/or delivery, warehouse or stockroom control techniques, and cycle or physical counting.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to manage and execute multiple activities to support the manufacturing activity.
  • A positive attitude, motivated, self-starter with strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably in a fast paced, constantly changing and ambiguous environment.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment when following through with priorities.
  • Understands the plans for meeting the business strategy and objectives, and how it relates to daily activities.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with possible overtime when needed.
  • Willing to work in a warehouse environment that can be hot, cold, dirty, encompassing all levels.
  • Ability to work in a potentially physically strenuous environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting; capable of lifting 50 pounds repeatedly with proper ergonomic form; will follow company safety and ergonomic guide to avoid injury.


2nd Shift – 2:00PM-10:30PM

3rd Shift – 10:00PM -6:30AM 

Starting Rate: $20/hour
