Job Overview:

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models.

• Create production-ready design documentation for vessel construction.

• Review and check drawings and models developed by CAD Drafters and junior designers.

• Interpret engineering drawings, system schematics, compartment arrangements, structural key plans, and electrical diagrams.

• Create and maintain accurate 3D models utilizing vendor-supplied and design information.

• Coordinate with engineers, production personnel, program management, suppliers, and customers.

• Ensure designs meet project specifications, customer requirements, and production standards.

• Assist in resolving design conflicts and interferences within the model environment.

• Support schedule commitments and meet project deadlines.

• Mentor and train junior designers and CAD Drafters as experience level dictates.

• Participate in design reviews and production support activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Associate Degree or higher in CAD, Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.

• Minimum 1+ years of 3D modeling experience.

• Minimum 1-10+ years of shipyard, marine, industrial, production, or construction design experience, depending on level.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary design and production teams.

• AutoCAD Experience:

  • Experience with 2D and 3D AutoCAD
  • Basic draw and modify commands
  • Layer management, line types, dimensioning, units of measure
  • Creation of orthographic views from isometric drawings
  • 3D modeling commands and creation of 3D models from drawings and vendor-supplied data
  • XREF functionality and interfacing with models from multiple disciplines
  • Clash-free 3D modeling practices

• Preferred Software Experience: ShipConstructor, Navisworks, Microsoft Office Suite

• Preferred Industry Experience:

  • Shipyard design and construction
  • High-speed aluminum vessel construction
  • US Navy vessel design and construction
  • Modular construction methods
  • Marine production support

• Design Disciplines:

  • Hull Design, Structural Design, Foundations, Equipment Installation, Piping Systems, HVAC, Electrical, Fit-Out Design, Material Management, Product Hierarchy Development

• Leadership Opportunities (Mid to Senior Levels):

  • Leading CAD Drafters and junior designers
  • Reviewing drawing quality and technical accuracy
  • Providing design direction and technical guidance
  • Training and mentoring team members
  • Supporting workload planning and scheduling
  • Participating in employee evaluations and development feedback

• Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to provide proof of U.S. Person status
  • Willing to undergo a background check and drug screening
