Supervisor Marine Insulator/Lagger
Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).
Clearance Requirement:
Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.
Supervise the following functions:
- Remove/Install high temperature and anti-sweat foam plastic, acoustic insulation, finishing cement, calcium silicate, molded sectional, fiberglass cloth.
- Remove/Install portable insulation pads associated with the U.S. Naval Surface Ship and Submarine platforms in accordance with the requirements of NA VSEA Standard Item 009-11.
Education:
The Supervisor position requires a minimum of a high school diploma
Experience:
The Marine Insulator / Lagger Supervisor position requires 5 years of verifiable experience as a supervisor in the assigned trade in an industrial environment i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience on U.S. Navy ship/vessels.
- Have the ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints.
- Be knowledgeable in the operation of powered machinery/tooling/equipment relevant to trade skills.
- Be knowledgeable in the use of precision measuring instruments normally associated with cognizant shipyard trades.
- Be familiar with materials associated with the ship repair industry.
- Have the ability to recognize working conditions or use of materials that require initiation of safety precautions and have the PPE for said conditions or materials.
- Have working knowledge on how to read and understand the information provided in a MSDS
- Be qualified and experienced at working in confined spaces (e.g. tanks, voids or stowage).
- Be qualified to wear safety harnesses and work from scaffolds or platforms where drop-off will be greater than five (5) feet.

Be familiar with the Marine Insulator/Lagger: Trade Skills
- Shall possess knowledge of the different types of insulation and lagging materials for the proper applications in accordance with applicable professional/trade standards and practices in a Shipyard or Marine Industrial written instruction.
- Shall possess knowledge of securing methods like wiring, pasting, and strapping.
- Shall possess knowledge of cutting, shaping irregular bends for pipe, fittings, valve, and other equipment.
- Shall be trained to meet environmental requirements to acquire, apply, remove, and dispose of installation waste or residuals in accordance with OSHA requirements.
- Shall be trained in the typical trade-related tools and instruments
- Shall be trained and experienced in working with schematics and technical drawings.
