Seeking a hands-on Electronic Test/ Failure Analysis Engineer to investigate and troubleshoot returned electronic assemblies and systems.
This role focuses on diagnosing customer-reported issues, performing high-vacuum testing in an ISO 7 cleanroom, and collaborating with internal teams and customers to resolve product performance concerns.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with hardware, solving complex technical problems, and supporting customers through detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Experience in semiconductor, photonics, or high-vacuum electronics is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed electrical testing and diagnostics on returned electronic assemblies.
- Investigate customer-reported issues and determine root cause through structured troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Conduct mechanical and electrical teardowns to evaluate component or system-level failures.
- Recreate reported issues using controlled testing and diagnostic procedures.
- Document investigation findings, root causes, and corrective actions in technical reports.
- Communicate directly with customers via phone or email to gather information, discuss troubleshooting results, and support resolution.
- Operate and maintain test equipment, including high-voltage power supplies, vacuum controllers, electrometers, oscilloscopes, and custom test fixtures.
- Perform testing within high-vacuum systems in an ISO 7 cleanroom environment.
- Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify whether issues originate from design, production, or field use.
- Develop and update test procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and work instructions.
- Track failure trends and support continuous improvement and product reliability initiatives.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required(ITAR compliance).
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electronic hardware or systems.
- Experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and diagnostic instrumentation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and systematic troubleshooting ability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer interactions.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on lab or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-vacuum systems or high-voltage testing.
- Experience in an ISO 7 cleanroom environment.
- Background in semiconductor equipment, photonics, vacuum systems, detector technology, or precision instrumentation.
- Experience performing product failure analysis or reliability investigations.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as MINITAB or SPC methods.
