Job Overview:

Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Fabrication Technician who will perform assignments that may not be completely standardized, as well as those that are very specific and require heavy attention to detail. Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents. Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions

Job Accountabilities:

  •  Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment. May troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conducts various tests or experiments that may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
  • Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
  • Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
  • Uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
  • Supports the facilities function as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s), and additional hours as necessary.

Job Specifications:

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations

Years Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience

Skills:

  • Experience in manufacturing production environments with a strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Experience using hand tools and common shop equipment to perform various manufacturing operations (Material handling, sanding and grinding, drill/ream, deburr and countersink holes, marking, and/or rivet)
  • Preferred experience in model making, proto-type development, manufacturing assembly and fabrication
  • Possesses high mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on situation.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ongoing manufacturing support and engineering insight to other support staff.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to write Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for statements of work in manufacturing transitions.
  • Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers.
