The Manufacturing Technical Writer reports to the Manufacturing Technical Support Manager to support our Storage Solutions Fiberglass Manufacturing Facilities by developing, standardizing, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WI), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Training Materials across multiple locations.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive WI, SOPs, JHAs, and other technical documents from plant representatives for review and editing.
- Ensure documentation is clear, concise, and formatted consistently before publication.
- Validate content accuracy by working with subject matter experts (SMEs) in manufacturing, engineering, safety, and quality.
- Standardize work instructions, training materials, and operational procedures across multiple facilities.
- Maintain document version control and ensure compliance with ISO, OSHA, and company policies.
- Develop, write, and edit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for fiberglass manufacturing processes, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Create and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in collaboration with Safety and Operations teams to enhance workplace safety.
- Develop training manuals, work instructions, and reference guides for shop floor employees.
- Work closely with Training, Technical Teams, Quality, and Safety Leadership to ensure training materials and SOPs support operational needs.
- Continuously improve documentation based on employee feedback, regulatory updates, and process changes.
- Incorporate visual elements such as diagrams, process flowcharts, and images to enhance clarity and usability.
- Support the development of digital learning modules and e-learning (Swipe Guide) content for training programs.
- Cultivate a team-oriented culture focused on employee value, trust, accountability, and collective results
- Facilitate effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of business objectives.
- Assess and optimize systems and processes for efficiency, implementing improvements as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Occupational Safety, Manufacturing, or a related field an asset (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3+ years in a technical writing role within manufacturing, safety, or quality control, preferably in fiberglass or industrial manufacturing.
- Communication & Detail Orientation: Ability to translate complex manufacturing processes into clear, user-friendly documents for employees at all skill levels.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (Training, Engineering, Safety, Quality, and Production) to develop and validate documentation.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other applicable standards related to manufacturing documentation.
