Job Overview:

Job Title:              Manufacturing Supervisor                         

Reports To:         Department Manager

Shift:                    Night shift (D shift) 6:30pm-6:30am on a 2-2-3 rotating schedule.                 

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Supervisor C is responsible for overseeing and coordinating day-to-day operations for their assigned work area. The Supervisor supports the Department Manager in monitoring and managing employee activity and performance, providing coaching and counseling as needed. The Supervisor ensures safety and quality standards are met, resources are properly allocated, and schedules and production timelines are maintained.  The Supervisor will lead their production team in a manner consistent with company policy as well as federal and state regulations to ensure organizational objectives are met.  


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Work with Department Manager to apply policies and procedures regarding performance, quality standards, safety, personnel management, etc.
  • Develop personnel through use of hiring, training, performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, terminations, and similar personnel management activities
  • Coach and support team members in achieving department goals

 

Essential Duties

  • Support the Safety-First culture of Volm Companies and be a role model for safe working habits by setting clear safety expectations and supporting Company safety initiatives and policies
  • Communicate safety topics and protocols to team daily, ensuring compliance, celebrating wins, and helping with any maintenance needs that can be done by non-maintenance personnel
  • Develop technical competence and understanding of customer product requirements and manufacturing processes in order to support team members in meeting quality and productivity objectives
  • Work with the Department Manager to develop and implement processes, initiatives, and strategies designed to improve departmental safety, quality, engagement, efficiency, and waste
  • Work with the Department Manager to establish and communicate production standards that align with Company performance expectations 
  • Provide regular production metrics and efficiency reports to Department Manager and production team 
  • Assist Department Manager in identifying areas for process and procedure improvement and develop action plan for improvement
  • Support sales team by responding to order inquiries and discrepancies in a timely manner Perform required administrative tasks such as timekeeping, performance, and production documentation

  • Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job 
  • Commitment to following and promoting safe work habits (compliance with all Safety/AIB policies and procedures)
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Capacity to effectively lead a team and comply with employment laws and regulations
  • Ability to effectively work with ERP system, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software
  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Capacity to calculate, analyze, and track figures and make competent decisions based on those figures
  • Strong verbal, written, and group-presentation communication skills
  • Communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are critical as Supervisors are expected to work directly and indirectly with all levels of employees, customers, and outside vendors
  • Consistently demonstrate a high level of responsibility and accountability

 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of one year of experience supervising two or more people and multiple teams that includes hiring, firing, conducting disciplinary reviews, and coaching employees; supervisory experience in manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in manufacturing environment that includes knowledge of processes, equipment, parts, systems, and machinery used in the production of flexible packaging is preferred

 

Physical Requirements

  • Consistent walking, talking, sitting, standing, repetitive motions, movements requiring fine motors skills and visual acuity
  • Occasional climbing, kneeling, crouching, pulling, pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, lifting (up to 50 pounds)
  • Work is typically performed in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment though certain tasks/projects may occur outside or in an office environment
  • Safety glasses, steel/composite toed shoes, and hearing protection when working on production floor
  • Employee is generally protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from high and low temperatures
  • Sufficient noise regularly requires employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level
  • Employee will be regularly exposed to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, stored potential energy, and working at heights of 4 or more feet
  • Employee may be exposed to conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dust mists, gases, limited ventilation, oils, chemicals, cutting fluids, etc.

Travel Requirements 

This position requires occasional overnight travel and occasional travel within the workday.   

Driver Qualification

The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company may be required. Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle. 

Becoming a qualified driver includes:

  • Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
  • When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
