Summary:

Remote with Travel | Preferred Home Base: Southern California, North Carolina, or Georgia

HBD Industries is seeking a Manufacturing Robotics & Automation Engineer to lead the deployment of robotic and automation systems across our network of 11 U.S. manufacturing facilities. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on implementing industrial automation solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking projects from concept through commissioning and wants to make a visible impact across multiple manufacturing sites.

Please Note: This is an industrial manufacturing automation role focused on physical equipment and robotics. It is not a software automation, RPA, test automation, or IT automation position.


What You'll Do:

  • Lead automation projects from concept development through production stabilization
  • Evaluate and select robotics, automation, and machine control technologies
  • Develop system requirements, technical specifications, and performance criteria
  • Manage automation integrators, equipment suppliers, and contractors
  • Program and commission industrial robotic systems
  • Support PLC integration, controls validation, HMI configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Provide hands-on support during installation, startup, commissioning, and ramp-up
  • Troubleshoot robotic, electrical, mechanical, controls, and vision systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, throughput, quality, and labor efficiency


What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Robotics, or related field)
  • 5+ years of experience implementing industrial automation and robotic systems in manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience programming and commissioning industrial robots
  • Experience leading capital equipment or automation projects
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across robotic, electrical, mechanical, and controls systems
  • Experience working with automation integrators and machine builders

Technical Expertise

  • Industrial Robots: FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa/Motoman, Universal Robots, or similar
  • Robot programming, optimization, and commissioning
  • PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, etc.)
  • HMI development and controls integration
  • Machine vision systems
  • Motion control and servo systems
  • End-of-arm tooling integration
  • Industrial electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Machine safety, safeguarding, FAT/SAT, and commissioning

Preferred Experience

  • CNC machine tending and manufacturing automation
  • Metal fabrication, machining, forging, or heavy manufacturing
  • Automated assembly, material handling, and robotics integration
  • Lean Manufacturing, Operational Excellence, and Continuous Improvement

Travel

This role requires approximately 50% travel (up to two weeks per month) to support installation, commissioning, and startup activities at manufacturing sites. When not traveling, employees may work remotely.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.
