Job Overview:

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer will primarily be responsible for supporting Operations activities related to Quality. This scope includes all manufacturing processes of the various Value Streams. The Manufacturing Quality Engineer will support safely driving continuous improvement activities by providing assistance with processes, standards, training, problem solving and analysis.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support product quality improvements to help eliminate waste and meet organizational goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and coach on the use of structured problem-solving tools: 5 Why, 9-Step, A3, etc.
  • Implement process improvements for the highest level of safety, quality, and productivity possible and promote a customer focused culture across departments.
  • Manage and lead the Manufacturing Quality Technicians (direct reports).
  • Provide robust countermeasures for identified root causes that lead to quality improvement of both product and processes, with a strong focus on defect reduction and prevention.
  • Apply critical thinking to quality issues and perform analysis on data to drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with other members of Quality, Design, Engineering, Customer Service, and Management to facilitate problem solving, root cause analysis, and provide technical explanations on systemic quality issues.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and other support groups in areas of quality system compliance and containment.
  • Assist with defined goal achievement, KPI (key process indicators) measures, and business initiatives.
  • Update the document control system by providing updates to appropriate Work Instructions, Quality System Procedures, and Standard Work.
  • Serve as project manager for any assigned projects.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical engineering or equivalent.
  • American Society of Quality (ASQ) certification or other preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification (Any Level) Preferred

 

Experience:  

  • >3 years of Quality experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience with leading and coaching direct reports. 
  • Familiarity and understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of Lean Principles, Six Sigma, and other problem-solving methods and tools.

 

Skills:

  • Knowledge of design specification standards and drawings with the ability to interpret for quality conformance. 
  • Excellent computer skills, strong analytical skills, planning and project management skills, people skills, relevant technical skills, strong listening skills, and strong written and verbal communication. 
  • The ability to complete major projects with little supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and timekeeping software such as ADP.
  • Must possess clear thought process of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions using Lean/Operational Excellence/Operational Excellence methodologies.
  • Able to make timely decisions in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Good understanding of consumer products, high volume lean manufacturing, and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes.
  • An understanding of General Manufacturing best practices, Fabrication operations and equipment are required.
  • Exceptional leadership, motivational, and project management skills with the ability to drive project-specific issues and goals to closure.
  • Ability to integrate business, manufacturing, and technical elements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal company and external associates, both written and orally, including the telephone. 
     
     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires periodic stooping/bending and frequent walking/standing throughout the day.
  • Requires occasional lifting of objects less than 25 pounds and of objects 25 to 50 pounds.
  • Work involves activities that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, or vehicles.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment.
