Job Overview:

Position Summary

Crispin Valve is hiring a Production Routing Planner to turn engineering drawings into clear, efficient manufacturing routings for our machine shop. When new sales orders generate demand in Epicor Kinetic, you will review the resulting machine shop jobs, study the component drawings, decide the sequence of operations and which machines each process runs on.

Key Responsibilities

• Review machine shop jobs created in Epicor Kinetic after new sales orders are entered and demand is generated, confirming each job has a complete, accurate routing before release.

• Review engineering drawings and specifications for each project's components, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, materials, finishes, and special requirements.

• Determine the sequence of manufacturing operations for each part (e.g., saw, turn, mill, drill, bore, grind, weld, heat treat, inspect, outside processing).

• Select the production machine or work center for each operation based on part size, tolerance, material, machine capability, capacity, tooling and cost.

• Create and maintain routings and bills of material in Epicor Kinetic (Engineering Workbench and Job Entry), including setup and run time estimates for each operation.

• Write clear operation instructions and notes so machinists know the work to be performed, critical features, and inspection points.

• Identify needed tooling, fixtures, gauges, and raw material sizes; coordinate with purchasing for material and outside services.

• Flag drawing issues, missing information, or manufacturability concerns early and resolve them with engineering, sales, or the customer.

• Work with the shop floor, programmers, and quality to improve routings, reduce setups, and balance load across machines.

• Release jobs and travelers to the shop and support scheduling with accurate routing data.

• Maintain revision control so the shop always works to the current drawing.

Required Qualifications

• [5+] years in a machine shop environment as a machinist, CNC programmer, manufacturing planner, or similar role.

• Strong blueprint reading skills, including GD&T and tolerance stack-up basics.

• Working knowledge of machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, boring, grinding) and the capabilities of CNC and manual equipment.

• Ability to estimate setup and cycle times and choose practical, cost-effective processes.

• Familiarity with common materials such as ductile iron castings, stainless and other alloy steels, and how they affect machining.

• Experience with an ERP/MRP system for job routings and bills of material.

• Clear written and verbal communication with machinists, engineers, and managers.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

You should be proficient in:

  • CNC Tooling
  • ERP & MRP Systems
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Basic Computer Skills
