Job Description

Cabinetworks Group is seeking a highly motivated and technically driven professional to oversee and support a large-scale paint and stain finishing system at our Waconia, MN cabinet manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on spray finishing experience who is looking to grow beyond day-to-day application work and apply technical, process-focused skills in a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has completed—or is actively pursuing—formal education in Engineering Technology, Process Engineering Technology, skilled trades, or a related associate degree. Comfort working on the manufacturing floor and a genuine interest in wood manufacturing processes are essential for success in this role.

Position Summary

The Finishing & Coating Process Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing cabinet finishing and coating operations to ensure high-quality results that meet customer specifications. With 2–4 years of relevant experience, you will collaborate closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to support end-to-end execution of painting and finishing processes.

This role focuses on process improvement, problem-solving, feasibility analysis, and supplier collaboration, while ensuring safety, efficiency, and consistent quality across all production runs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with finishing equipment and technologies such as spray booths, HVLP systems, and automated painting systems.
  • Proven experience with process optimization and quality control methodologies.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.

Desired Qualifications and skills

  • 2+ years of technical or engineering-related experience supporting finishing and painting processes in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to environmental and systems controls, such as ISO 14001.
  • Strong expertise in surface preparation, coating application techniques, and curing methods for cabinet finishes.
  • In-depth knowledge of coating systems, including solvent-based, water-based, and powder coatings.
