Job Summary
The 3rd Shift Manufacturing Manager is responsible for overseeing all production, quality, safety, and personnel activities during the overnight shift. This role ensures manufacturing operations meet production schedules, quality standards, and operational goals while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The manager provides leadership, coaching, and direction to supervisors and production employees, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all manufacturing operations during the third shift to achieve production, quality, safety, and cost objectives.
- Supervise, coach, and develop shift supervisors, team leads, and production employees.
- Monitor production schedules and workflow to ensure on-time completion of customer orders and production targets.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, specifications, and operating procedures.
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and safe work practices.
- Analyze production performance metrics and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime and ensure optimal machine performance.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, equipment failures, quality concerns, and employee relations matters.
- Conduct shift meetings and communicate operational priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
- Monitor labor utilization, staffing levels, and overtime requirements to meet business needs.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Human Resources, to support operational objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other operational excellence methodologies.
- Maintain accurate production records, reports, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, quality systems, and safety regulations.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with manufacturing software systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work overnight hours and respond effectively to operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
