The Maintenance Mechanic role is a diverse role providing support to the organization in mechanical, electro-mechanical machining and serving as a maintainer in a manufacturing facility. When serving in this position, an individual could have diverse tasks and responsibilities based in all these technician roles given the daily operational needs. Individual must have some applicable skills and be willing to learn skills necessary to support all the areas as better explained below. These roles provide support to the engineering teams to check equipment, operating systems by correcting machining issues and applying preventative maintenance requirements to avoid downtime. The role ensures the performance of all Company mechanical products, machinery and equipment performs optimally while additionally assisting engineers with analyzing performance results.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

- Provide support during machine installations and upgrades including: interfacing auxiliary equipment, identifying and correcting errors in programming and wiring and ensuring vendors and contractors are meeting our needs and expectations; conduct regular diagnostic tests on the mechanical systems

  • Developing and implementing mechanical maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns

  • Update service and repair records, maintaining our machinery, and running diagnostic tests on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance

  • Responsible for building, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment; ensuring rapid response to any malfunctions and breakdowns

  • Operate and maintain hardware, high pressure systems and pumps, and other ancillary equipment including pneumatic components

  • Optimizing mechanical efficiency by adjusting machinery and equipment settings; streamline processes and increase the reliability of production operations

  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products, such as industrial machinery or equipment, and measuring instruments

  • Resolve motor, pump, conveyor and hydraulic problems

  • Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment

  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies, using test instruments such as electronic voltmeters

  • Install electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies, using soldering equipment and hand tools

  • Verify part dimensions or clearances to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments

  • Repair, rework, or calibrate hydraulic or pneumatic assemblies or systems to meet operational specifications or tolerances

  • Maintain and repair all facility systems to ensure their proper operating condition

  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures

  • Operate, test, maintain, or calibrate unmanned, automated, servo-mechanical, or electromechanical equipment

  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers

  • Programming computer numerical control (CNC) machinery, such as punch presses Maintain inventory of common stock materials

  • Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly

  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts, using hand or power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly

  • Ability to work in a team environment, record data in a computer system, communicate with multiple departments, and complete work orders and preventative maintenance on equipment indoors and outdoors

  • Performs quality checks according to procedure and repairs equipment in a timely manner

  • Perform preventive maintenance to sustain machinery and equipment to ensure production volume is sustainable and timely

  • Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections

  • Maintain documentation and records in all systems

  • Participate in emergency response activities as necessary

  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations

  • Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits or certifications as required

  • Handle time accounting and complete work order

  • Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate Company procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, ASME, NEC, etc. standards

  • Responsible for assisting other technicians with maintenance and repair duties, including training co-workers on the safe and efficient use of mechanical machinery and equipment

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

- Preferred – Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Maintenance; in lieu of degree a minimum of 4 years’ experience serving as a trade/mechanical technician in a related industry

  • Required – High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Required – 5 years’ experience in equipment maintenance, prefer equipment maintenance in a manufacturing operation

  • Prefer experience overhauling maintenance operations with extensive troubleshooting skills

  • Prefer experience maintaining electrical, motor controls, installations, maintenance, and repairs

SOFTWARE/COMPUTER SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

- General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook, Google Workspace, and web-site software

  • Proficiency in mechanical design and diagnostic testing software

Will lift, carry, pull / push, and reach for supplies and on occasion lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while performing various aspects of the job; Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
