JOB OVERVIEW:

The Manufacturing Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance and system upkeep of our manufacturing plant equipment, machinery, and general upkeep of the facility. This position will manage the maintenance department and support operations and engineering by maintaining all press equipment and implementing strategies and procedures that minimize production downtime and increase efficiencies.

The Manufacturing Maintenance Manager contributes to HGCs goals and success by ensuring equipment and machinery operate safely and at peak efficiency, resulting in our products being on-time and high-quality for customer delivery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Developing and implementing maintenance strategies and procedures that minimize equipment downtime and operational disruptions
  • Manage and train maintenance technicians
  • Managing budgets and controlling maintenance costs
  • Monitoring the efficiency and lifespan of equipment
  • Coordinating with vendors and suppliers for equipment procurement
  • Planning and scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance work
  • Ensuring all maintenance work is documented according to internal and external requirements.
  • Monitoring the inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies, planning re-orders to avoid delays in maintenance activities
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards
  • Training and developing maintenance staff to enhance their skill sets and efficiency
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations involving equipment breakdowns, mitigating potential hazards or interruptions
  • Implementing energy-saving measures and sustainability practices in maintenance operations
  • Troubleshoot and make necessary changes to processes and/or machines within the established written procedure guidelines
  • Strive to achieve the best performance of machines by ensuring machines are running at established cycle and production rates
  • Support setup processes
  • Work with existing vendors and suppliers to supplement inventory and decide the appropriate stock
  • Safely, effectively, and professionally use all basic hand tools, maintenance shop machinery, diagnostic test equipment, etc.
  • Install and set up various press equipment to specifications, as well as the ability to position and arrange equipment in multiple configurations to conform with product dimensions, layout, speed, and packaging requirements
  • Perform minor repairs to existing equipment, defective parts, and new
  • Manage a team of technicians
  • Ensure training and development of team members for effective operation and promote skill cross-training to develop a flexible workforce
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will manage and direct the work and objectives of the Manufacturing Maintenance technicians. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training their direct reports and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement
  • Must thoroughly understand hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, gearboxes, rotating machinery, bearings, bushings, gears, conveyor belts, etc.
  • Must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude to decipher root cause analysis of machinery
  • Ability to retrofit the facility to meet changing demand
  • Ability to read equipment manuals and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, piping, and control diagrams.
  • Provide a proactive approach to repetitive failures, initiate design change/modification, fabricate new parts, diagnose defective parts, and re-order like materials
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance/work order system and ability to maintain system

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field is preferred, or 5+ years experience in lieu of a degree
  • Extensive experience in maintenance, preferably in the Manufacturing industry
  • A minimum of five years in a managerial role
  • Strong understanding of compliance and safety regulations pertinent to the industry
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work practice in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations, including but not limited to lock out/tag out, electrical, guarding, fall protection, PPE, etc.
  • Working experience leading and participating in a manufacturing environment; Understanding of manufacturing methods and procedures, process improvement
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, using hand tools, power tools, test meters, and diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledgeable in electrical systems, mechanically inclined, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with robotic controllers and programming automated machinery is required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing for extended periods- 5-10 hours a day
  • Walking for extended periods- 1-5 hours a day
  • Frequently stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and/or stairs- when needed
  • May work with or near dry ice, CO2 gas, and/or silicone
  • Protective clothing/equipment may be required depending on the job task
  • Work may be performed in areas of extreme heat

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Manufacturing plant and office employees can/will be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and other airborne particles.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional travel (15% or less) to local vendors and suppliers
