Manufacturing Engineering Specialist – Thermal Management Systems
We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to join our team at the Ironton site, specializing in Thermal Management Systems (Computer Room Air Conditioning and Heat Rejection). You will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of Proto-Type sheet metal processes and New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) projects. The ideal candidate will optimize fabrication and assembly processes, ensuring high-precision quality and operational efficiency for complex thermal units. This role requires a deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication, thermal system assembly, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between design and high-volume production.
Core Responsibilities:
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements in sheet metal fabrication and thermal unit assembly to reduce scrap, optimize material nesting, and improve throughput.
- NPDI & Prototyping: Lead the manufacturing launch of new thermal products, overseeing proto-type sheet metal builds to validate designs before full-scale production.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Conduct DFM/DFA reviews to ensure thermal components are optimized for CNC punching, laser cutting, and forming.
- Quality Assurance: Develop quality control procedures specific to pressurized thermal systems, including leak testing and brazing standards, according to ASME guidelines.
- Technical Support: Provide expert troubleshooting for sheet metal tolerances, tooling interference, and thermal assembly bottlenecks.
- Lean Manufacturing: Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to streamline the flow of large-scale thermal unit enclosures.
- Equipment Management: Oversee the selection and maintenance of fabrication machinery (press brakes, lasers) and specialized thermal testing equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed manufacturing routers, bill of materials (BOM), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new thermal platforms.
Required / Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: 7-10 years in manufacturing engineering, with 3+ years in thermal management, HVAC, or heavy sheet metal fabrication.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO), ERP systems (Oracle/SAP), and sheet metal nesting software. Deep knowledge of HVAC manufacturing processes.
- Certifications: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or Lean Certification preferred.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Physical: Ability to stand/walk the Ironton manufacturing floor; lift up to 25 lbs; manual dexterity for inspecting precision sheet metal parts.
- Environmental: Exposure to typical fabrication environments (noise, metal dust, heat) and testing chambers for thermal units.
Travel: 10% - 25%
