Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer II develops, implements, and optimizes manufacturing processes and operator instructions for Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and electronic assemblies utilizing a combination of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through-Hole (TH) processes. This role is responsible for monitoring quality and manufacturing efficiency to drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and systematic problem solving. The Manufacturing Engineer II provides production personnel with reliable, easy-to-follow processes and documentation that support high customer satisfaction through cost-effective manufacturing, high yields, and on-time delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret customer documentation, quality requirements, engineering drawings, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes that meet product and customer requirements efficiently and effectively, including:
    • Defining process flow and manufacturing methods
    • Creating operator work instructions for automated and manual assembly processes, including inspection criteria
    • Designing, ordering, and validating manufacturing tooling such as SMT stencils, wave solder pallets, press-fit tooling, component forming/prep tooling, jigs, and fixtures
    • Developing SMT and Through-Hole soldering profiles
    • Supporting chemical approval and application processes
  • Ensure manufacturing process parameters remain within acceptable tolerances and meet IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 Class 3 workmanship standards.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) and product launches by validating process effectiveness and implementing process improvements as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues related to manpower, methods, machines, materials, measurements, and environmental factors.
  • Monitor and analyze key manufacturing metrics including Customer Return Rate (CRR), First Pass Yield (FPY), scrap, rework, and overall equipment efficiency (OEE), and implement corrective actions to achieve performance goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, throughput, and changeover reduction.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities through process optimization and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to Manufacturing Engineering Technicians and Manufacturing Engineering Assistants.
  • Support Project Engineers with capacity planning, labor estimating, and manufacturing quotations.
  • Collaborate effectively with Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to ensure smooth manufacturing operations.
  • Promote open communication and knowledge sharing within the Manufacturing Engineering department and across support groups.
  • Adhere to all company safety, health, environmental, and security policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of manufacturing or process engineering experience in electronics manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Electronic components, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and manufacturing chemistry
    • SMT and Through-Hole assembly processes
    • IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards
    • Manufacturing efficiency, labor capacity planning, and quoting processes
  • Experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes and work instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers, suppliers, engineers, and production personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and manufacturing documentation systems

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, engineering drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels and varying technical backgrounds

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, proportions, dimensions, tolerances, and statistical process measurements.
  • Working knowledge of basic algebra, geometry, and manufacturing calculations.
