Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Satellite Manufacturing Engineer in our EMS Space Systems Manufacturing group. Under general supervision, this position supports the spacecraft AIT manufacturing production process with focus on the assembly and integration efforts of piece parts into sub-assemblies, major assemblies, and final assemblies of a spacecraft build from component though spacecraft EVT and delivery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs assembly level drawing reviews in a DFM effort with the spacecraft design team.
  • Authors MWIs consuming all drawing requirements and BOM components, identifies GSE required as well as other documentation needed for which the technicians will perform work.
  • Works closely with the technician team to ensure spacecraft task work scope is clear and minimizes wasted or down time.
  • Establishes and maintains a daily and weekly task plan showing work scope necessary in planning and preparedness to support program schedule goals.
  • Perform and directs all work in the priority order of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Maintains a BOM LOB to understand and provide part status.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, systems, quality) to ensure manufacturing processes and priorities are aligned with design requirements.
  • Works closely with the spacecraft testing engineers IAW with spacecraft AIT plan to help ensure all safety, quality, schedule and cost program goals that minimizes downtime and maximizes work completed.
  • Support the assembly, integration, and testing of complex systems, including payloads, communication and propulsion systems.
  • Collaborates with product design engineering on technical specifications that will best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Estimates manufacturing costs and determines time standards.
  • Ensures that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
  • Develops appropriate documentation of non-conformance findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors in engineering or a related technical field as well as two or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a general understanding of manufacturing and assembly engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS-SCI level clearance is required.
