Job Overview:

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application / Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing CNC machinery and automation team. This is a hands-on, customer-focused engineering position responsible for developing manufacturing solutions, supporting CNC equipment applications, and helping customers maximize the capabilities of their machining processes.

The ideal candidate will have several years of practical CAD/CAM programming experience and a strong understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing processes. You will work directly with customers, machine operators, programmers, and internal engineering teams to develop machining strategies, prove out applications, troubleshoot production challenges, and implement automated manufacturing solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining CAD/CAM programming, CNC machining, applications engineering, and customer interaction and wants to play an important role in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize CAD/CAM programs for CNC machining applications.
  • Create machining strategies, toolpaths, setups, and process plans for customer applications.
  • Support the integration and implementation of CNC machinery and automation systems.
  • Conduct application testing, machine demonstrations, process development, and part prove-outs.
  • Work with customers to understand manufacturing requirements and develop practical machining solutions.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machining, programming, tooling, workholding, and process-related issues.
  • Optimize cycle times, tool life, part quality, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support machine installations, startups, and customer training.
  • Assist customers and internal teams with CNC programming and manufacturing process development.
  • Evaluate customer parts, drawings, models, and manufacturing requirements to determine appropriate machining strategies.
  • Collaborate with machine tool, tooling, automation, and software suppliers as required.
  • Prepare technical documentation, application reports, process recommendations, and customer presentations.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team during customer visits, demonstrations, and machine evaluations.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate automation and advanced manufacturing technologies into customer processes.
  • Travel to customer facilities for applications support, machine installation, training, troubleshooting, and demonstrations.

Required Qualifications

  • Several years of professional experience in CAD/CAM programming for CNC machining.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and/or turning.
  • Experience developing and optimizing CNC programs and machining processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, 3D models, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, machinists, programmers, engineers, and sales professionals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40%.
  • Ability to work independently in a customer-facing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple applications and customer projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more major CAD/CAM platforms such as Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Fusion, NX, ESPRIT, FeatureCAM, or similar.
  • CNC machine programming and setup experience.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining, including 4-axis and 5-axis applications.
  • Experience with CNC turning, mill-turn, or Swiss-type machining.
  • Experience with CNC machine tools from major manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, workholding, fixturing, and machining optimization.
  • Experience with automated machine tending, robotics, pallet systems, bar feeders, or other CNC automation.
  • Experience with post processors and CNC machine controls.
  • Experience conducting customer demonstrations, machine runoffs, or applications testing.
  • Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical degree is a plus; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing professional who understands how parts actually get made. The right candidate is equally comfortable sitting at a computer developing a CAM program, standing next to a CNC machine during a prove-out, and sitting across the table from a customer discussing their manufacturing challenges.

You should be comfortable taking a customer application from part review and process development through programming, machining, optimization, and implementation.

Because we are a growing CNC machinery and automation company, this position offers the opportunity to have significant influence on our applications capabilities and customer relationships. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, commercially minded, and excited to work

You should be proficient in:

  • GD&T
  • Equipment Troubleshooting
  • CNC Programming
  • G-Code
  • M-Code

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC)
  • CNC Lathe (2-4 axis)
  • CAM Software
  • CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)
