Job Overview:

Facility: Buffalo, NY

 

General Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is to support the Operations and Design Engineering teams by efficiently managing the implementation of new products, processes, and equipment into production. The Manufacturing Engineer is also responsible for documenting new and existing processes in the production environment.

Specific Duties

  • Document existing processes in production.
  • Suggest improvements for existing processes, research options, and make recommendations. 
  • Train production operators as required.
  • Create project plans as required.
  • Work with Maintenance personnel as required.
  • Create tool designs in Solidworks, including solid model generation and drawings.
  • Work with purchasing to get tooling quoted.
  • Support machine shops as required during tool build.
  • Create and/or update Work Instructions and other ISO documents.
  • Create layouts for workstations and work with operations team to optimize existing workstations and implement new ones. 
  • Participate in problem solving and root cause analysis for issues on the floor and customer complaints. Work to implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. 
  • Participate in MRB meetings and provide input on material dispositions and rework methods. 
  • Identify areas of concern related to scrap and make recommendations to reduce.        Work with operations and quality on solutions to prevent scrap.
  • Conduct time study analysis with operators to determine proper efficiency for production process. 
  • Validated/Verify new and updated process
  • Participate in GEMBA Walk for Plant and APU for awareness of issues related to manufacturing processes. 
  • Attend design reviews as formal handoff from Design Engineering to Manufacturing Engineering. 
  • Follow all applicable environmental, health and safety rules and procedures and immediately report all dangerous situations, near-misses, and injuries.

Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering degree or comparable experience. 
  • Must have the ability to work independently and possess strong workload management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with management, supervisors, staff, and customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability in Solidworks.
  • Knowledgeable about dimensioning and tolerancing. 
  • Aware of lean manufacturing concepts such as single piece flow. 
  • Knowledgeable on general machining and fabrications techniques such as grinding, milling, turning, and welding. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Must learn and adapt quickly in a fast pace manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to self-check work for accuracy.

 

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. A large degree of lifting (moderate to heavyweight), bending, squatting and maneuvering. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, for viewing a computer terminal distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception vision for moving objects and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • The ability to work with chemicals in the proper environment and while wearing PPE. 

 

Personal Protective Equipment

The following list of PPE is required while in the manufacturing area:

  • Safety Glasses conforming to ANSI Z87.1 or higher
  • Steel Toe Safety Shoes conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910 
  • Hearing protection conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910
  • The ability to wear a dust mask conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 39 CFR 1910.134
  • Additional PPE may be required depending on the department
