In this role, you will own the technical parameters for producing high volume bronze gear blanks, bushings, and cylindrical components. You will drive G-force/RPM calculations, melt chemistry control, and defect elimination to maximize metal yield and support downstream CNC machining operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Engineering & Rotational Parameters: Calculate, optimize, and standardize spin speeds (G-force targets up to 60+ Gs), pouring temperatures, pour rates, and mold cooling cycles for centrifugal bronze casting
  • Melt Control & Metallurgy: Oversee induction melting, deoxidation practices, grain refinement, and chemistry control for bronze alloys (aluminum bronze, tin, manganese bronze, and phosphor bronze,).
  • Defect Analysis & Root Cause Elimination: Investigate and resolve centrifugal-specific casting defects—such as band segregation, gas porosity, shrinkage pockets, inclusions, and hot tears—using root cause analysis tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Yield Enhancement & Tooling Design: Design, evaluate, and maintain permanent steel dies, faceplates, and pour troughs to maximize material yield and optimize machining stock allowances.
  • Standardization & Cross-Functional Alignment: Write and maintain shop floor work instructions, job check sheets, and standard work procedures. Partner closely with CNC turning operations to minimize tool wear caused by casting defects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years of engineering experience in a non-ferrous foundry, with demonstrated direct experience in horizontal or vertical centrifugal casting processes.
