Purpose
The Manufacturing Engineer develops or improves manufacturing processes, improves quality, increases efficiency and cuts costs.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide ongoing review of manufacturing processes to promote a high level of efficiency based on LEAN principles
- Perform labor time studies to track and improve department efficiencies
- Develop standard work instructions for manufacturing processes
- Recommend proper utilization and procurement of machinery, tools and equipment
- Perform engineering work such as: design of machinery, equipment, jigs, and fixtures
- Work directly with the shop floor to troubleshoot daily issues and continuous improvement ideas
- Assist with cost control programs and standards
- Process ECO’s and set up BOM’s/Routings
- Initiate safety and quality improvements
- Participate in Kaizen and LEAN events as required
Requirements
Physical Demands:
- Perform stationary work 60% of the time using a computer and applicable office equipment
- Perform work on the production floor 40% of the time – observing and interacting with various departments
Education/Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 2+ years manufacturing experience
- CAD Software experience
- Experience creating Bill of Materials (BOM), routings and Engineering Change Order (ECO) processing
- Ability to handle high work load and manage multiple projects
- Experience with design and manufacturing of tooling, fixture and gauges to support prototype and production processes
- Proven process implementation in SPC, Lean, and/or Six Sigma processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic hands-on engineering experience in fabrication/assembly environment
- SAP experience, preferred
