CRITICAL OUTCOMES / MAJOR TASKS:
The primary indicator of success in this role will be the robust performance of the processes this ME is accountable for with respect to safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC). The most important characteristics for the candidate to possess to deliver this outcome are joint ownership with the area leadership of the success of the processes, a relentless drive for improvement, and excellence in problem solving.
The main tasks to achieve this outcome are defining, stabilizing, improving, and supporting the existing processes. Typical activities will include:
- Making timely, systematic improvements to process stability and performance through excellence in the scoping of problems, root cause analysis, experimentation, and the implementation and validation of mitigations. The artifacts of this work will typically be a combination of new or revised process sequences and parameters, tooling, equipment, machine software, work instructions, routers, setup sheets, design of experiment test reports, process qualification reports, product design changes, etc. These activities include responding to and providing support of customer facing and safety issues.
- Applying Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques to reduce waste and improve the flow of value through the ship.
- Making use of classic process science and statistical techniques to reduce process variation.
- Develop and maintain thorough documentation of the defined processes such as: SOPs, work instructions, Job Safety Analysis, PFMEA, control plan and First Article inspection sheets.
- Providing “second responder” support (after area lead) to resolve technical process issues that production personnel are unable to resolve.
- Systematically evaluating innovative manufacturing process technologies and practicing excellence in project management to implement those technologies.
Timely and robust implementation and release of new products into the manufacturing areas. The main tasks to achieve this outcome are:
- Working with product engineering to evaluate the design with respect to manufacturability and providing workable design change suggestions.
- Designing the processes (sequences, methods, tooling, parameters, instructions, etc.) for the new product introductions.
- Ensuring new process qualification plans are in place and executed in a timely manner.
- Provide technical leadership and support in any changes in Bill of Materials, supplier and other changes affecting form, fit and function of the product.
Project management and Continuous Improvement initiatives
