Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with advanced robotic, automation, and packaging technologies while leading transformational change across the network. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, project leadership, and a passion for building safe, efficient, and scalable manufacturing systems.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about advancing automation in manufacturing and ready to lead the next generation of warehouse, packaging, and material flow solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead large-scale capital projects focused on automation, packaging systems, robotics, and material handling.

  • Provide technical leadership for automation integration, including robots, manufacturing equipment, conveyance, and workstation design.

  • Drive optimization of existing robotic and product conveyance systems to improve safety, efficiency, ergonomics, and cycle time.

  • Create, standardize, and maintain engineering documentation and standardized work.

  • Partner with external vendors, integrators, and OEMs to define equipment capabilities, system requirements, and deployment plans.

  • Lead redesign of production areas with a focus on automated workstations, material presentation, and operational flow.

  • Oversee equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification, including completion of required safety verifications such as G-Comply.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, throughput optimization, and problem-solving tools.

  • Coordinate machine runoffs and provide on-site oversight during OEM-led equipment installation activities.

  • Conduct Safety Contract Management (SCM) activities, task planning, and observation tours to help maintain a safe working environment.

  • Travel as needed to support OEM build reviews, equipment runoffs, and site installations, including occasional weekends or off-shift coverage.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, automation, warehousing, or a related industrial environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to design safe, efficient, and scalable operations, including robotic work cells, automated packaging lines, and material handling systems.

  • Strong experience with ergonomic workstation layout, risk mitigation practices such as G-Comply, and throughput optimization.

  • Working knowledge of Standardized Work (STDS), Line Balancing (APS), TIP, Indirect Labor Studies, and throughput improvement tools or simulations.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and facility or workstation layout optimization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or relative experience.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience leading automation or robotics deployments in warehousing or production environments.

  • Working knowledge of industrial robots, cobots, and robot-guided vision systems.

  • Experience with performance tracking, process monitoring, and data-driven continuous improvement.

  • Project management experience leading work across cross-functional teams and multiple facilities.

  • Working knowledge of automated labeling, box forming, palletizing, and other robotic packaging technologies.
