Job Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing systems in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results
  • Designs, develops, and tests and/or sources and justifies cost of various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency
  • Prepare & revise CAD drawings to include flat patterns and all dimensions required to fabricate parts
  • Develop CAD drawings of piece parts, weldments, and entire machines using electronic layouts, prints, drawings and other sources
  • Prepare Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), subject to approval of product structures and item masters
  • Prepare rough drafts of product packing lists after evaluating and reviewing appropriate drawings and publications
  • Prepare explanatory notes giving specifications of material, finish, or heat treatment
  • Generate exploded views of assemblies and sub-assemblies for use in publications and manuals
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Writes procedures and trains employees to do repetitive machine setups, preventative maintenance, and simple repairs
  • Documents equipment, tools, and processes used on the production lines
  • Repairs broken parts, makes new parts, or find buyout alternatives
  • Troubleshoot equipment/tool problems, find and implement best repair solution
  • Identifies high risk equipment/tools and plan for replacement or refurbishing
  • Reviews new product designs for manufacturability and make suggestions for improvement
  • Sets up new production lines (Layout, workflow, new tool design, processes, and training)
  • Makes efficiency improvements on existing production lines
  • Performs tasks in a hands-on manner 
  • Solves production line ergonomic issues when they arise
  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams
  • Other duties as assigned including training others on known processes

 

HOURS:

This is a full-time 40 hour per week role working four ten-hour days Monday – Thursday between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm. Occasionally longer hours may be required. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (including employment, clubs, labs, and personal)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must have initiative and ability to work independently
  • Must possess a strong desire to learn
  • Must follow ISO procedures and create procedures for processes as required
  • Proficiency in reading and writing in English

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD 
  • DBWorks or Enterprise PDM experience
  • Design for manufacturability experience
  • Design verification testing experience
  • Engineering Change Management experience
  • Experience in the design of injection molded, cast, forged, and machined parts; sheet metal; and extrusions

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  • Project management experience
  • Gate process for NPD launch
  • DFMEA and DFM understanding
  • Must be highly self-motivated, work with minimal supervision able to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; some workstations require lifting and/or moving up to 60 pounds

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment, may work near moving equipment, and exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise.
