Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines to manufacture close-tolerance parts. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, confidence reading technical drawings, and the ability to inspect finished work using precision measuring equipment.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant machining experience and a consistent commitment to quality, safety, and dependable workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes and mills to manufacture components that meet drawing and specification requirements
- Read engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and other technical documentation
- Inspect work throughout the machining process using micrometers, calipers, bore and depth gauges, dial indicators, and related instruments
- Select and maintain appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine setups for each operation
- Make necessary machine and tooling adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and identify or troubleshoot equipment problems
- Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively during setups and minor repairs
- Keep the work area organized and comply with all company safety procedures
- Contribute ideas that improve machining methods, productivity, quality, or material flow
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience operating manual lathes and mills in a manufacturing or job-shop environment
- Hands-on experience with manual lathes and milling machines
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and machining specifications
- Proficiency with precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and dial indicators
- Working knowledge of machining processes, tooling, feeds, speeds, and close-tolerance work
- Practical math skills for measuring, calculating dimensions, and making machining adjustments
- Ability to work safely with machine tools, hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and other shop equipment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
