Job Overview:
We are a well-established manufacturer of industrial power transmission solutions serving a wide range of heavy industrial markets. Our Glendale Heights facility is clean, organized, and outfitted with top-tier machining and assembly equipment. We are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist with a strong background in drilling and tapping operations to support the production of high-precision components used in gearboxes, gearmotors, and drive assemblies.
Position Summary
This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented machinist who thrives in a precision-driven environment. You will focus on the setup and operation of manual and semi-automatic drills, taps, and mills to produce high-quality machined parts according to complex specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic drilling, tapping, and milling machines.
Machine steel, aluminum, and cast iron components per blueprints and hole callouts.
Use jigs, fixtures, or manual layout methods to perform accurate hole-making operations.
Read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and GD&T specifications.
Perform precision inspections using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and height gauges.
Coordinate with CNC operators and assembly technicians to maintain part flow and quality.
Maintain tooling and uphold 5S safety and cleanliness standards
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in a machining role, preferably within gearbox or pump manufacturing.
Proficiency with thread callouts, pitch gauges, and tapping charts.
Excellent blueprint reading and mechanical layout skills.
Strong understanding of tolerances, flatness, and squareness requirements.
Ability to perform bolt circle and layout math with accuracy.
High mechanical aptitude and a strong safety mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with thread milling or rigid tapping on manual or CNC equipment.
Ability to perform light milling, countersinking, or surface finishing.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement initiatives.
