**Role: *Experienced Manual Machinist - Journeyman Level*

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist at the journeyman level who can independently set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines, manual lathes, and surface grinders. The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint-reading skills and the ability to handle a variety of machining jobs involving different materials, part quantities, and specifications.

The department primarily handles prototype machining and small production runs, requiring flexibility, sound machining judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to transition between different jobs regularly. A collaborative team attitude is essential, as the machinist will occasionally set up parts for other machine operators to run.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines, manual lathes, and surface grinders.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications.

• Machine prototype components and parts for small production runs.

• Work with varying materials, job requirements, and production quantities.

• Adjust machine settings, tooling, and workholding to meet dimensional and quality requirements.

• Inspect finished parts and verify dimensions against print specifications.

• Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to achieve accurate results.

• Transition efficiently between different machining jobs as daily priorities change.

• Occasionally set up parts and prepare jobs for other machine operators.

• Maintain consistent quality, accuracy, and safe operating practices.

• Keep machines, tools, and the work area clean and organized.

• Collaborate with team members to support production priorities and meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman-level manual machining experience.

• Ability to independently set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines, manual lathes, and surface grinders.

• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering prints and blueprints.

• Experience machining prototypes and handling small production runs.

• Ability to work with different materials, part sizes, quantities, and job requirements.

• Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, workholding, and dimensional accuracy.

• Ability to inspect machined components and ensure they meet print specifications.

• Strong teamwork, communication, and willingness to support other operators when needed.

• Ability to manage changing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.

• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal machining apprenticeship or recognized journeyman training.

• Experience in a machine shop handling custom, prototype, and short-run manufacturing work.

• Experience preparing machine setups for other operators.

• Experience with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators.

• Experience troubleshooting machining problems and improving setup efficiency.
