Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist/Technician to join our Rapid Prototyping Machine Shop team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment, interpreting complex engineering drawings, and producing high-quality precision components and assemblies. This role also involves welding, assembly, and routine machine maintenance.

Key Responsibilities: Manual Machinist

  • Set up and operate manual saws, mills, and lathes to perform precision cutting and shaping operations.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models.

  • Select appropriate tools, materials, and fixtures for each job.

  • Estimate machining hours and identify the required equipment to complete jobs efficiently

  • Inspect machined components using calipers, micrometers, and CMM tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.

  • Prepare materials and perform MIG and TIG welding as required.

  • Assemble machined and fabricated components into finished assemblies per specifications.

  • Conduct routine maintenance on shop equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Troubleshoot issues with machines or part dimensions and make adjustments as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications: Manual Machinist

  • Proficient in blueprint reading and interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models.

  • Strong understanding of basic math principles used in machining and measurements.

  • Skilled in the setup, operation, and maintenance of manual lathes and knee mills.

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to assemble and disassemble machinery.

  • Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding techniques, including weld prep.

  • Experience machining a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper alloys.

  • Comfortable working with power tools and standard shop machinery.

Preferred (Beneficial) Skills: Manual Machinist

  • Experience machining high-nickel alloys.

  • Familiarity with waterjet cutting operations.
