Manual Machinist – Bridgeport Mill (Itasca, IL)

A custom equipment manufacturer is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist specializing in Bridgeport-style manual mills to support one-off, made-to-spec component manufacturing.

This role focuses on drilling, tapping, and machining thick steel or aluminum parts using a Bridgeport mill with drill chuck, followed by manual tapping for threaded holes. Parts are custom per project, requiring strong print reading, precision, and ownership of quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine one-off metal components to blueprint specifications

• Drill and tap thick materials using a Bridgeport mill and hand/tapping tools

• Maintain tight tolerances with high accuracy and repeatability

• Read and interpret mechanical blueprints

• Inspect work using precision measurement tools

• Maintain shop safety and workflow efficiency

Requirements

• 3+ years as a Manual Machinist (Bridgeport or similar required)

• Experience drilling/tapping thick steel or aluminum

• Skilled in manual tapping and drill chuck mill setups

• Strong blueprint reading and understanding of tolerances

• High attention to detail and commitment to quality

• High school diploma or GED

Nice to Have

• Experience with custom machinery or enclosures

• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, height gauges

• Deburring, layout, and secondary hand tool experience

• Strong troubleshooting and setup skills

Compensation & Schedule

• Pay: $23–$25/hr

• Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (OT available up to 20 hrs/week)

• Location: Itasca, IL

• Type: 6-month Contract-to-Hire
