We have a great opportunity for a qualified Manual Machinistto join our team at our Cumming, GA. An excellent compensation and benefits package is available for qualified candidates.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Manual Machinist is responsible for fabrication, modification, and operation of industrial machine tools and parts to precise specifications. The Manual Machinist develops and maintains these tools and parts utilizing knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. You will be familiar with machining on equipment such as: Vertical Turret Lathes and/or Manual Lathes.

KEY TASKS:

  • Set up and manually machine components and parts for all types of pumps in a custom job shop
  • Machine to specifications including impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine methods of operation
  • Perform precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting with various machinery including horizontal boring mill, vertical boring mill, and ID/OD grinders
  • Check dimensions of critical components and translate into numerical form using inspection equipment
  • Evaluate machining procedures to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Maintain machine tools and equipment in proper operational condition
  • Comply with Hydro shop safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with Engineers, shop personnel, and other Machinists to troubleshoot problems and recommend solutions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KSAOs):

  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to apply it in a shop setting
  • Knowledge of geometry to compute angles, radii, bolt circles, and other dimensions
  • Knowledge of feed rates and effects of adjustments
  • Skill in setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
  • Ability to machine pump shafts of 3-10 ft and hold close tolerances of 0.0005 or less using steady rest
  • Attention to detail
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Coordination and control precision

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • 5+ years post-training experience working as a machinist in an industrial facility machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines.
  • Completion of a technical or vocational training program related to machinery (Journeyman status preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
