The Machinist’s role is to manufacture and/or replicate “one off” parts and perform repairs to existing parts by executing industry standard repair techniques. Measure and evaluate existing parts for suitability of operation in various types of pumping equipment and related machinery such as motors, vacuum pumps, blowers, compressors, etc.

Responsibilities of the Manual Lathe Machinist include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the identification, measurement, and machine work required to repair all types of pumping equipment. This will include the selection of the types of materials required.
  • Responsible for providing accurate records, reports and drawings of repairs. This information will be submitted in a legible condition in a timely manner.
  • Properly operate and regularly maintain the tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Cross train with or assist mechanics or field technicians, if necessary.
  • Schedule and perform regular safety checks of all equipment in the machine shop area, including fire extinguishers and alarm systems.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a timely manner and shall work in a manner consistent with safety of self and others at all times.
  • Make regular inspections of the building and equipment assigned to him/her during the week.
  • Achieve self-improvement by attending training sessions, in-service and workshops conducted by Pro-Seal and/or other approved agencies.
  • Work in accordance with the principals and procedures outlined in the QPI manual.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications of the Manual Lathe Machinist include, but are not limited to:

  • 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in the operation of manual metal lathes is required.
  • Additional experience in boring vertical and horizontal milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, dynamic balancers is highly preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in the tooling and measuring instruments required for this work is also essential.
  • Possess or willing to purchase basic machinist tools in a suitable toolbox and be familiar with their use and calibration. Tool purchase program available.
  • Follow written/verbal directions from Pump Repair Facility Supervisor or the respective designee where applicable.
  • Stay organized, work productively and efficiently.
  • Pleasant and courteous manner and be able to relate well to customers, vendors, Pro-Seal employees and all groups using the building.
  • Display knowledge and initiative in maintaining safe and clean conditions in and around the shop area. Maintain composure in emergency situations.

Physical Demand: Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Working Conditions: A lot of standing in a warehouse shop environment.

Training/Certifications: N/A

Shift Time/Overtime: Monday - Friday, 7am - 4pm.

Travel: N/A

Education: High School Diploma or GED.
