Position Summary

FORTNA is seeking a Manager, Electrical Systems Engineering to lead the electrical estimating function for material handling and automation projects. This role is responsible for managing a team of electrical estimators while ensuring accurate, competitive, and timely project estimates. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, finance, subcontractors, and customers to develop comprehensive estimates and proposals that support successful project execution.

What You'll Do

Lead the Electrical Estimating Team

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical estimators by providing guidance, training, and ongoing support.
  • Assign work and manage team priorities to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on quality and continuous improvement.

Manage the Estimating Process

  • Develop and implement effective electrical estimating procedures and methodologies.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and supporting documentation to determine electrical requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather accurate estimating information.
  • Analyze project scope to identify risks, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, cost analyses, and labor assessments for electrical systems.
  • Utilize estimating and pricing software to develop accurate project estimates.

Perform Cost Analysis & Budgeting

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for the electrical scope of construction and material handling projects.
  • Evaluate material costs, equipment pricing, subcontractor proposals, and labor requirements.
  • Conduct value engineering analyses to optimize project costs while maintaining quality.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost databases to improve future estimating accuracy.
  • Partner with Procurement and Finance to support accurate project budgeting.

Prepare Proposals & Bids

  • Develop comprehensive and competitive bid proposals that align with project requirements.
  • Review bid documents, contract terms, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Present estimates and proposals to customers, including cost breakdowns, project scope, and value-added solutions.

Build Customer & Partner Relationships

  • Work closely with customers, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to understand project objectives.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project negotiations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and resource availability.
  • Respond promptly to customer questions and requests for information.

Drive Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on industry trends, electrical codes, regulations, and emerging technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, tools, and overall team efficiency.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • AutoCAD experience with understanding of System Design.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, materials, labor costs, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Project and Project Management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a similar field of study.
  • 4+ years of electrical estimating and/or sales experience; material handling industry experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive people leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of induction motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and industrial networks.
  • Knowledge of electrical installation practices.
  • Proficiency using electrical estimation software (Excel) and related estimating tools.

The base salary range for this role is $100,700 to $151,100. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
