**Position Overview
**
This position as part of the
**Test Engineering organization
**will provide comprehensive safety, performance, and reliability engineering support to Proterra’s Battery Engineering team and Proterra Technology Lab. You will be responsible for the development and oversight of validation test specifications for safety, performance, and reliability testing of high voltage battery platforms, documentation of tests and failure analysis resulting from those tests. Additionally, you will be responsible for leading a small team of specialized validation and test engineers.
**About the Role – You will:
**
- Lead safety, performance, and reliability for all high voltage battery programs through strategic design verification planning, test execution, and reporting.
- Supervise a small but growing team of validation and test engineers.
- Develop specifications for in-house execution of safety, performance, and reliability tests of Proterra’s high voltage battery packs and sub-systems from prototype phase to production.
- Use reliability models to support design verification plans and to calculate demonstrated reliability throughout test execution.
- Follow industry standard quality management systems to ensure traceability of all design verification tests from stakeholder and system requirements to testing plans, data, and reporting.
- Provide clear and concise documentation related to tests, including reports on parts under test and their status.
- Capture identified failures in detail and work with engineering to facilitate resolution.
- Assist in the facilitation of the failure analysis process by providing detailed information surrounding failures in test articles.
- Proactively collaborate with design team to disseminate verification test results, participate in design reviews, and assess the flow of new parts into testing.
- Prioritize and complete tasks to meet necessary deadlines.
- Provide design input to improve product safety and reliability when necessary.
- Interact with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results.
- Initiate and drive process improvements that have large impacts on the team’s safety, effectiveness, and culture.

**Your Experience Includes:
**
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of hardware validation experience and a proven track record of managing engineering projects with progressively increasing responsibility
- Experience managing three or more direct reports
- Experience using test equipment including climatic chambers, vibration shaker tables, power cyclers, and liquid chillers
- Demonstrated understanding of Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes for electro-mechanical systems
- Experience with reliability test design including demonstration methodologies, failure rates, acceleration factor, and simulations
- Experience with data acquisition systems, digital and analog interfaces for PCs, test systems, etc.
- Experience working in an R&D test lab environment
- Experience with data processing for root cause analysis and reporting
- Familiarity with test instrumentation (i.e., temperature, flow, pressure, low voltage analog)
- Familiarity with high voltage products
- Familiarity with electrical and electronic circuits, thermal systems and heat transfer, and mechanical structures and vibration
